11 Channels, Boston GT275 and Phoenix Gold Zen 9

The speakers are controlled by 2 amplifiers. A total of 11 amplified channels. The Phoenix Gold is a Limited Edition of which only 100 were made, it has 9 output channels without any form of regulation, only pure output for the best sound quality.

Changing the reardeck

The parcel shelf has a third brake light, and is normally not completely flat. The third brake light is removed by means of fleece cloth and epoxy and the parcel shelf is smoothed.

Wrapping the Fleece

Epoxy

The fleece is impregnated with Epoxy so that it can form a new hard layer.

Bottom Rear deck

The closed holes can be clearly seen here from the back.

Measure the position of the grills

Measuring the grills was quite difficult because it has to be right in the first attempt, the grills also have to be installed completely straight, even very small deviations are very disturbing. To do this well, molds have been made to mark the correct position without errors.

Boston Acoustics Z6 Compo's

The Boston Z6 compo sets which will be mounted in the rear deck.

Fitting with MDF

Make a test mounting plate from MDF to see if everything will fit in the available space. After all dimensions have been checked, the final plate is made of aluminum.

Measuring speaker hole

Carefully measure where the speaker hole should be.

Marking center point

Hit the center of the hole into the plate with a center point.

Damping mat

Apply damping mat to the steel before installing the speaker plate.

Speaker plate

The rear speakers are normally in the doors, but because of the DTS installation they have been moved to the rear shelf.

For the speakers I milled a plate of 10mm thick aluminum. This is bolted to the sheet metal. The rear deck is treated with damping mats.

Speaker fitting

The hole has been made in the plate with a large hole drill, but it still needs to be cleaned up a bit. With the router and a template, the hole is made slightly larger.

Routing

Hole is made bigger

Speaker fits in the plate

The hole is now perfect for mounting the speaker.

Speaker installed

A hole has been made in the plating so that the basket of the speaker has just enough space.

Testing fitment rear deck

Fortunately, the hole in the parcel shelf is exactly in the right place.

Boston logo

The grilles of the rear doors are reused in the rear deck, when the lighting is on the Boston logo can be seen. When the lighting is off, the logo is almost invisible.

Audison wiring

Audison Reference cable is used for the speaker cabling.
